SealRite Spray Foam Announces its Participation in New Jersey's First LEED Platinum Home

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

In Northern New Jersey, in Hillsdale, on Cross Street to be more specific, the Garden State is approaching completion of its most ecologically sound, most advanced environment friendly home.

Many are unaware of the fact that Governor Corzine and his administration have written an energy plan which calls for 30% of New Jersey's homes to use renewable, efficient resources by the year 2020. New Jersey is already a national leader in its support of cleaner, renewable and less destructive means of harnessing and consuming energy; a leader in its commitment to make less of an impact on the environment. Under Governor Corzine, 16,822 homes have been built to Energy Star specifications, as set by the U.S. Department of Energy for New Jersey's Clean Energy Program. Exceeding that high standard, the Hillsdale, New Jersey home has taken a step towards raising the bar and building greener than green.

The home on Cross Street is the first residential building in NJ to reach the status of LEED Platinum, the highest level of energy efficiency and green certification. It is 70% more efficient than a conventional structure. The residence utilizes the latest, most energy efficient technology available. Sustainable materials like bamboo flooring, reclaimed pine cabinets, polymer roofing, and spray foam insulation are a few examples. The polymer roof keeps the rain water clean so that it can be stored and used. Water soaks through the walkway and patio surfaces to reduce run-off. Energy Star rated appliances and lighting are also found throughout the home. A high efficiency heating and cooling system has been installed. And finally, advanced foam insulation provides a complete air seal in the roof and the walls to reduce the loss of heat to an absolute bare minimum. Spray foam insulation will lower the homeowner's energy bills by up to 50%, allowing the sun to take on its more important tasks, and keeping the heating and cooling systems working at their minimum.

SealRite Spray Foam installed the foam insulation, helping the state of New Jersey to make this ecologically profound step in green building. This monumental project speaks volumes to homeowners and industry professionals, not only about the impact of energy efficiency to the pocket of the individual American homeowner, but also the impact that building smart will have on America as a whole. Green building is not a trend that has passed or part of the distant future, but a current responsibility homeowners and builders should embrace for both its cost-effectiveness and positive influence on the environment. The Hillsdale project has paved the way for more environmentally friendly building. SealRite is proud to have had the opportunity to contribute their services to such a profound movement.
